Canadian singer-songwriter Maggie Szabo has a new uplifting pop anthem in the form of “Don’t Give Up.” Off her upcoming EP Worthy, the singer wrote the song as a love letter to transgender youth.
“So many trans youth feel alone because there isn’t anyone standing with them,” Szabo told Billboard. “I hope to be one of the many more people in this world that lets them know they are loved.”
The music video, which Billboard can exclusively premiere today (Sept. 19), follows a teenager struggling with their gender identity before high school prom. But like the song, the video is equally empowering, as it has an unexpected happy ending.

Szabo will be donating a portion of the profits from the music video to the Ali Forney Center: “I have seen too many situations where transgender youth are being discarded by their family and forced to live on the street and engage in high risk behavior simply to survive,” said the singer. “The AFC provides kids with meals, beds, medical and mental health care and most importantly a place to feel loved and supported.”
